Cynthia Summers is an Emmy-winning, groundbreaking costume designer and stylist based in Los Angeles. She is best known for her brilliant and unique style-eye, which she uses to develop inspiring images of modern-day independent women and men as well as fantastical characters taken from the pages of a book to a binge-worthy series. Whether she is bringing life to a character off the page of a script or styling a celebrity, Cynthia is inspired by the spirit of every persona to create a cohesive look that resonates for each individual.
Cynthia has just wrapped on HBO’s highly-anticipated adaptation of THE LAST OF US, created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. She completed the recently-released Apple Original film SWAN SONG, with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Glenn Close, Naomie Harris, and Awkwafina. In 2021 she was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award in Outstanding Costume Design/Styling for her work on Netflix’s first season of THE BABY-SITTER’S CLUB. Her eye-catching designs for the second and third seasons of Netflix’s Emmy-Nomniated series LEMONY SNICKET’S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, starring Neil Patrick Harris, have won five CAFTCAD awards and were nominated for 2019 & 2020 Costume Designer’s Guild awards as well as two Primetime Emmys (2018 & 2019) in Outstanding Fantasy/Sci Fi Costumes. She was also nominated for a 2021 Costume Designer’s Guild award for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television for TNT’s SNOWPIERCER season 1, starring Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs
Cynthia has also designed looks for NETFLIX’S cyberpunk-noir sci-fi series ALTERED CARBON starring Anthony Mackie and Simone Missick; season two of Lifetime’s award-winning series UNREAL, and the third, fourth, and final fifth season for Bravo’s breakout hit and first scripted series GIRLFRIENDS’ GUIDE TO DIVORCE. Cynthia is constantly praised for the chic looks she develops for an array of characters. Her style choices move flawlessly from the screen to viewers’ closets as she presents versatile options, visually defining each character in a way that connects with consumers.
Cynthia’s outstanding and diverse resume of 60+ credits includes Showtime’s Emmy-nominated series THE L WORD, for which she was the recipient of the Hollywood Style Award – Best Costumes, and FOX’s Emmy-winning series BONES. In addition, Cynthia created the prequel cadet academy world of Halo for Microsoft’s series adaptation of HALO 4: FORWARD UNTO DAWN. Her film work includes BEAUTIFUL BOY, APOLLO 18, and THE SHOW starring Giancarlo Esposito, Josh Duhamel, James Franco, and Famke Janssen.
